  1. You can also try to avoid him if you really don't like him and just talk to him (nicely) when you are in situations that you have to interact!
  2. I understand where the firefighters were coming from but I think they were wrong. My view is totally that as if I were a neighbour as if I was that guy's neighbour I'd be pretty angry. My concern would be that they only started to try to put it out once it started to burn the neighbour's house...what about the smoke damage that would have occurred before any flame jumped to the house? What if the firefighters couldn't control the fire at that point and it completely damaged my house...prevention seems far safer than letting it get to that point. What about the mess/clean-up/eye sore of a burnt down house beside you...presumably the re-construction would be worse since they let the house burn further, meaning as a neighbour I now get to deal with the noise of that beside me. Overall whether my neighbour had paid $75 bucks or not I would want any fire that could possibly effect me out as part of my $75 fee.
  3. Blurble-not sure if it's new but I just sat for a good five minutes watching your avvie...love it. 'It's complicated' lol
  4. I also prefer the keyboard...I think it's because I started playing RPGs before there were options to use a mouse and now that's how I associate playing with them. I did try the mouse but I figured if it ain't broke don't fix it! lol

    Magic Debate

There certainly are a lot of documented miracles...or phenomenon we just can't explain. Perhaps we lack the science to do so but I like to think in greater forces in the world out there-that's magic to me.
  6. I'm not sure whether this should really be posted here or spam haven...so mods feel free to move this as you feel appropriate. Facebook games. Mindless, souless, and obsessive. The storylines are weak at best and for the most part non-existant...the tasks are predictable and rarely humourous...so why are they taking the masses? Why, when I love the thought and intricacy that goes into most RPG games, am I obsessed with them?? Farmville, Frontierville, Zoo World...if you have a fancy for anything in life I guarantee you it's been made into a facebook game. So who participates? Who doesn't? Do you think these are a flash in a pan or are here to say? And more importantly I need neighbours...
  7. Welcome Yuffie! I didn't realize that there were so many FFs until reading yours and connie's posts. I feel like it's something I'd like...is FF all computer based or does there happen to be one for the Wii?
  8. There's a reason that prostitution is called the world's oldest trade...I don't think it'll ever be just stamped out. I think that if prostitution followed KTC's original suggestion (like it does in the Netherlands etc) that it'd be a whole lot safer for prostitutes and customers alike if it was legalized. I think realistically prostitution will occur whether it's legal or not (clearly as it does today) so I like the idea of making it safer for everyone involved.
  9. I just saw the exciting news! Congrats Mopiece (represent!) and UntoldReveries-both exciting news.
  10. I had my wisdom teeth taken out...they ended up putting me under for the surgery and it was my first (and only) experience I've had being under. I didn't have any crazy talk while going down but I woke up throwing up either due to the pain or a reaction to the whole thing. Yuch. So overall not a great experience but I remember loving the applesauce, pudding, and ice cream I got for days after!!!! Braces...I had them for a year and although I'm still appreciative as to what they did to my teeth I can't say I was ever all that excited to have them. Why the excitement?
  11. @Argoyle-and here I had been thinking there golden retriever mix (maybe that other side!) but I can totally see the border collie now that it's called out. She's adorable!
  12. @Argoyle-what kind of dog do you have? Great picture of you two. @Griselmay- don't say that, you're pretty-your smile is great Kirara- lol love your second pic...you've got spunk!
  13. Ashen-oooh love your set. I noticed it on another thread and came here specifically to tell you
  14. I don't understand the cutting of the marks-you either got the marks or you didn't based on your work, not on personality. How can you tell the marks were cut because of the incident? I can't imagine a principal would stand for that.
  15. Was there any reason given for why she is retracting her statement? Are charges still being pressed? Is she separated now from her brother and father?

    World Cup

Sana totally agreed...and I always seem to have a hard time judging if the yellows are warranted or if the players were diving.

Quote: off note: what cha guys think of the new uber science-y soccer/football ball? Heard the brits don't like it. Hilarious comment. No, the Brits don't like it but there's been complaints from most of the teams about it. I think it's the ball coupled with the elevation in South Africa that's affected ball speed. Apparently the elevation is also supposed to decrease the amount of spin on the ball which causes the change of motion when the ball hits so I think Adidas made an effort to design a ball with increase spin to offset the elevation. Goalies don't like spin!!

    World Cup

@Mizzou-good memory! I do know Toronto soccer fans...especially with TFC there I did however just move to Ottawa at the beginning of May (slightly unexpectedly-which put a huge damper on my beta testing) and there's not quite the same mass of soccer fans here! As to video replay I don't completely get Blatter's argument. I understand that he doesn't want to stop the flow of the game, however if you add on video replay for contentious goals, the play has stopped anyhow for the goal itself. I'm glad that he's finally opening up to goal line technology, but that doesn't go far enough in terms of what the majority of the outcries are about. Without video replay, France would still have qualified (which they obviously shouldn't have) and Argentina's goal would still count against Mexico...let alone the goal that was called back against the US in qualifying... Anyhow, I do believe that the flow of the game is integral and that you can't start questioning all calls...but at least for goals, where there's already a stoppage in play, what can the harm be in replaying anything that's contentious?

    World Cup

KTC: in terms of drawing countries together my thinking was more along the lines of sport in general (on a world platform) vs. World Cup specifically (I wasn't very clear!). Yes, the US may be just too big and too fractured. I had the pleasure to be backpacking Europe during the World Cup and it was amazing-soccer fans from all over the world sought out their 'country' bars or restaurants and came together for each game. Most countries dedicated large screens in city squares for the public to come together to watch their squad. The media spoke of little else. It was an incredible experience, and short of a war, I can't think of what else can have the effect of bringing the people of a country together to support the same thing. (Obviously war can also have the opposite effect as well!) As Aeturnus said with Canada and hockey, the night the men's hockey team won gold in Vancouver sure felt like the country came together for that moment in time. Does it mean anything in the long run? Probably not. Does everyone get involved? No. But it sure is cool to experience! Aisling-your comment made me laugh. I think you are completely right!

    World Cup

It's down to the final 16 now, with Uruguay moving on and the US just eliminated. I'm overall not a huge soccer fan but in general love sport. Even though I'm not overly into soccer, I'm completely fascinated by the World Cup. Is there anything else out there that brings countries from around the world leveled out onto one platform? Is there anything else that can unite an entire country together to put their differences aside and root for their side? I pretty much feel the same way about the Olympics, but there is something about the World Cup that I think (and this is a huge gasp on my part) might be even better. Is anyone else out there watching and caring?
  21. Aeternus-*slaps head* thank you for enlightening me on why Serena was so upset during that battle. I remember not really getting it when I watched it as a kid (why would she be crying now when her friends are just captured!). That makes SO much more sense that they actually were killed. So where would be the best place to find 'real' versions of manga? I don't imagine local video stores have that kind of stuff. Downloads? Where can I download legitimately (not ripping someone off)?
  22. KTC-Thank you for the Roosevelt quote...I love it. I find that so empowering-that is one I'm going to remember. Connie-I actually like the 'no pain no gain' quote. I'm in training for a sports team right now and they have been going slightly insane on us with fitness drills. Nearing the end of some of these drills I find my energy nearly wiped and all it's actually those words echoing in my head that help me find my extra reserves to keep going and pull through. I think someone said above that it's all about taking the quotes in context and while it's certainly not true in all situations, I've definitely used it as inspiration to battle through tough times!
  23. Star-Dreamer-there could be many reasons she acts that way...she may be jealous of you as bacman said, she could be trying to control everybody and not liking you as you're not letting yourself be controlled, or she just may plain not like just because as Rena said. I sympathize with you that it must be incredibly tough in a class with only 7 people...it is hard to escape that. Unfortunately the best thing to do may be to just keep ignoring it and keep being nice to her. People change. And if they don't, things change and people move in and out of lives. It sounds like a crappy situation but resorting to violence or trying to rally other girls against her will just blow this thing up even further.
  24. Moony-I know french but the spelling doesn't look anywhere near french :S I tried to sound it out in my head phonetically to see if it made sense in case the spelling is off but I guess I tend to visualize words as I just can't get it.
  25. Aeturnus-I might have missed it with all the posts, but did you try talking to him about it first or from his perspective would it be a random deleting? I have both my parents on fb. Neither of my parents live in TO so it's been a good way to keep in touch. My dad does go a little overboard sometimes-he'll reference pictures (usually that my bro put up as he's constantly throwing up pics) that I often haven't seen or ask about friends by name (that I know he shouldn't know the first and last name) so I think I get where you're coming from. I feel like it's a little weird but at the same time in my Dad's case I know it's because he misses us and essentially thinks fb is a godsend to still feel part of my brother and my lives even though he's in a different city. I just can't take that away from him-nor do I want to-it almost makes us closer in a way when we do talk as I don't always have to explain things from the beginning. I know if I took my Dad off fb without letting him know he's stalking too much that he'd be really hurt. Of course if I had already talked to him about it and things didn't change then I'd go for that next step.
