First story I ever post here. Enjoy first part.
Rain... For many means life, for even more means death. It's raining calm and slow, no thunders, no lightnings, although the sky is dark. Cars pass by at high speed, splashing people walking down the street under their umbrellas. Even if everything seems calm, pets won't stop on making loud noise. It's known that when animals don't have rest and seem nervous, something bad is about to happen.
Everyone seems careless, and happy because of the rain that came after a harsh dry period. But.. In the whole town, one person was also pouring along with the rain, and that person was pouring bitter tears.
Darlene is locked in her room since 4 days ago, and she is not talking with anyone - nor parents, nor friends. When her cell phone is ringing, the song " Delta Goodrem - Lost without you " plays, making her burst in even bitter tears. In all this time, she didn't eat, drink, sleep.. She just cried. Only her salty tears coming down her cheek kept on humidifying her dry lips, dried from too much whispering. The room door is locked, and her parents can't get in. Windows are shut, curtain drawn over, total darkness in her room.
In her mind, painful memories find their place. Memories that darkened her soul and hurt her heart. Memories... almost impossible.. Fairytales.
Darlene's back is facing the curtains, and once in a while she peeks outside at the rain. Her blanket is almost falling off her bed, and her teddy bear is in a corner of it. Tears dried on her cheeks. She is holding in her arms a photo frame; she is looking at it with pain, biting her lips till they bleed. In the picture, in clear-obscure you can see the face of a boy, who is smiling happily. Its hair is long, till the base of the neck, and the haircut is made on the right side, almost covering his right eye. His hair and eyes are black.
Darlene is hugging the photo really tight at her chest, and lets a sob escape. Then she start to pay so much attention at it, that she can’t hear the slight knocks in her door.
“ Darlene… Darlene….”
Behind the door, you can hear a feminine, calm voice.
“ Darlene, I beg you… Open the door…”
Then, a louder knock. Being pulled out of dreaming, Darlene asked with a strangled voice.
“ Wh-Who is it?”
“It’s me, your mother. Please Darlene, won’t you come down and take dinner with us? It’s your favorite.. Pizza.”
No answer. Inside the room, only slow and silent sobs and sighs. Hopeless, her mom got down in the kitchen, where the whole family is waiting for her.
When she reached the kitchen, Darlene’s dad asked her.
“Won’t she come and eat? “
Her mother nodded and sighed.
“No Michael… She won’t come..”
“What will we do sweetheart? What Darlene is doing is a slow and certain death.”
Silence. Then, Darlene’s older sister replied.
“Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to break them up…”
“No Rachel.. It’s for her own good.”
“ You are wrong, mother. It’s not for her own good.” Darlene’s older brother replied.
“It was a good idea Edward. It was the best and sole solution.”
“Solution at what mother? Darlene is 18 years old, and I am sure she can make difference between what’s good and what’s bad for her.”
“But she is still a child. She might do some mistakes she will never be able to repair.”
“Mom, to love is not a mistake…”
“ Yes, but..”
“No honey, kids are right. <
“ But you would agree her to date…him…?”
“We are her parents. We should care about her happiness.”
Mom shushed and so they took dinner silently.
After dinner, Rachel decided to try to get in Darlene’s room, to check if she is ok. She knocked in the door, then tried to open it. Surprisingly.. It opened.
She entered her room silently, and saw her sister sleeping. The frame was near her. Rachel picked it up and looked at it. Same face was smiling to her too.
“ I wonder if he knows how much she is suffering…”
Then she looked at Darlene. She was sobbing and whispering some words.
Rachel’s heart was tearing apart seeing how much Darlene is suffering, even when she is sleeping. She touched her cheek, then Darlene started to cry again.
“ You will see, Darlene. Everything will settle. You won’t suffer like that for long…”
She placed the photo in her arms, and Darlene started to hug it tight, and began to sob. After, Rachel took slow steps outside her room, and closed the door. She decided to go sleep too, but one question was driving her crazy.
“ Is he suffering like she does…?”
Rachel then shake her head, and peeked inside Darlene’s room. The warm glow of the moonlight was on her, making her looks angelic. Then, she closed the door again and went in her room to sleep.
It’s 1 AM
